COZYING UP THE ROOM WITH CURTAINS
08/30/2022Living in a 1970s brick ranch house, there isn’t much natural light to be had. The front room/dining room gets the most light in the house which isn’t much. When we remodeled to open up the dining room/sitting room/entryway into one long room, I didn’t want to do anything to block the light. These windows are the only place I can keep houseplants and I didn’t want to cover them up in any way.
We lived for several years with the bare windows and I still love them as is.
But I always felt the long room needed a bit more coziness.
Introducing the new curtains. They are a thin, flowy linen material that don’t add heaviness or darkness which is what I wanted to avoid. The taupe/beighe color against the white walls (with the awful blue tint that I can’t wait to change) warms up the space a bit and pulls in the newly painted taupe wall in the adjoining family room.
There are 8-foot ceilings throughout the entire house. I opted to hang the curtain rods just below the ceiling which really does help make the room feel taller and doesn’t cover up the trim we worked so hard on.
Hint on the curtain panels – wait for a sale and buy them then to save a few bucks. Product links are below for anyone interested.
This room is hard to photograph with little light inside and the bright sun outside. I feel like the photos don’t do the curtains justice. But I love them and the extra touch of coziness they bring. They don’t block any of the precious light for my plants – and my soul – and that’s a good thing for everyone.
What is the saying? With one change, the need for multiple others arises. I think I just made that up but it’s true.
Now let me introduce you to my updated cozy reading spot. In my defense, I was never 100% happy with the cloth chair but it was a cost effective option that served it’s purpose – to be a comfortable lounge spot for the dogs. Or that’s what they thought it was for. To keep dirt and hair off the cloth chair, I had to keep it covered with a blanket which drove me bonkers. I never actually sat in the chair and it wasn’t a style I loved.
Hence my newer cost effective faux leather chair. It adds a touch of modern that fits perfectly in this 1970s ranch. A fur hide bumps up the coziness factor and the gold lamp adds a little glam, which we all know I’m all about. Peep my bowl of disco balls next to the lamp.
All in all, this area of the house is slowly becoming just as I envision it to be. Soon I’ll paint the walls a creamier white with no blue tint and add molding . Then I think it will be perfect. Until my taste changes again anyway.
