DIY STICK GARDEN MARKERS
03/03/2023
It may just be the 1st week of March but it’s time to start planning this summer’s garden beds. This blog post is an oldie but goodie I first shared back in 2015. These garden plant markers are extremely simple and cost nothing to make. The ugly plastic tags that come with the plants always tend to break off and disappear halfway through the summer. Instead, let’s make cute plant markers that will last all season using sticks from fallen tree limbs. Use garden shears to cut sticks to the length desired. Cut the bottom of each stick at an angle to make it easier to push it into the ground. Cut the top of each stick straight across. Next, carefully use a knife to scrape off the layer of bark. I used what I think is a called a carpet knife and it worked perfectly. Using a Sharpie maker, write...

PHILODENDRON | HOUSEPLANTS YOU CAN GROW
02/28/2023
I thought it would be fun to start a new series featuring house plants and their care tips to show that anyone can be a good plant parent with a little knowledge. Having house plants is like raising babies. When we become a plant parent, we have no idea what we’re doing, we just have to figure it out. And locking them in a room with no light is frowned upon. If you can raise a child, you can grow a plant. The first plant I’m featuring is one of my favorites. The philodendron is low maintenance, fast-growing and super easy to propagate for more plant babies. There are many different kinds of philodendrons. Today I’m going to focus on a few...

MY FAVORITE HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
02/24/2023
Have you heard of the Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookies? Levain Bakery in New York is famous for its chocolate chip cookies. I have never been to the actual bakery in NY but it’s on the list for our next trip. There are numerous copycat recipes online. I don’t remember where I found the recipe I used originally. Through trial and error I have made little tweaks to try to perfect the process so they turn out great every time for me. This Levain Bakery copycat recipe is my absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. The secret ingredient is the course sea salt sprinkled on top before baking. It takes a regular chocolate chip cookie to the next level. Other keys to the perfect cookies include using a food scale to ensure all cookies are the same size which allows them to cook evenly. Freezing the dough balls for...
