It’s been a little over a week since the upsetting Super Bowl loss. We have had time to come to terms with the disappointing showing. But hey, how many teams can say they have been to three consecutive Super Bowls or five of the last six Super Bowls? I say that’s pretty awesome! Our son has slowly been fixing up his first house redoing the front of the house, reconstructing kitchen cabinets to fit a dishwasher, DIYing concrete countertops, remodeling the bathroom, clearing out brush to extend the backyard, etc. His recent project was to update the tile fireplace surround. The patchwork quilt tile wasn’t really he and his fiancé’s style but it was newly installed before he purchased the house a few years ago. It also happened to be the kitchen backsplash tile and shower nook tile which he has since replaced both. Instead of replacing the tile around the fireplace, they used the power of paint for a quick, inexpensive update. After thoroughly cleaning and degreasing the tiles, they used a high-heat primer and paint to simply paint over the patchwork tiles. Have you considered a bulletin board full of your family’s favorite things to enjoy each time you pass by? I got the idea from Jessica Garvin, @jlgarvin on Instagram. She switches her board out each season with family photos, artwork, notes, cards, etc. They are always adorable. I happened to have an old unopened $6 bulletin board I’d had for years stored in the basement so I made my own favorite things bulletin board. I wasn’t feeling the natural wood so I gave it a good scuff with sandpaper and added painter’s tape to prep for stain. Using leftover stain from our floors, I applied it to the raw frame using a clean cloth. That made it much more to my liking and it only took about 30 minutes start to finish.
